Marcus Bosch has been General Music Director of the Bavarian State Theater and the Nuremberg State Philharmonic Orchestra since 2011. After his debut with the German State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate at the age of 24, the conductor, who is of German-Brazilian descent, decided to pursue a traditional career as a music director and opera conductor, which took him to the State Theaters in Wiesbaden and Saarbrücken and the Halle State Orchestra. From 2002 to 2012 Marcus Bosch enjoyed great success as General Music Director in Aachen, where he launched his international career.

He has conducted many of the major orchestras in Europe, Asia and America, including the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Lyon, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestra Nazionale della RAI Torino, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the MDR Symphony Orchestra, and the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie.

Marcus Bosch has appeared as a guest conductor with various opera companies, among them the Saxon State Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Basel Theater, the Göteborg Opera, and the Verona Philharmonic Theater (Tristan und Isolde). He is a regular guest at the Hamburg State Opera, where since his debut with Fidelio in 2005 he has conducted Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Der Freischütz, Falstaff, Macbeth, and Der fliegende Holländer. His opening premiere of the 2013/14 season, York Höller’s Der Meister und Margarita, was a resounding success.

Numerous world premieres, conducting engagements at the Munich Biennale, and the presentation of the Handel Prize by the city of Halle demonstrate the conductor’s wide-ranging stylistic competence. As a result of his study of historical performance practice, his interpretations often present works of Brahms, Wagner, and Bruckner in a new light, according to music critics.

During the past few years he has built an extensive discography, including internationally acclaimed complete recordings of the symphonies of Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner as well as a DVD release of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg recorded at the Nuremberg State Theater. He is currently recording the complete symphonies of Antonín Dvořák with the Nuremberg State Philharmonic Orchestra on the Coviello Classics label.

Since summer 2010 Marcus Bosch has served as artistic director of the opera festival in his native city of Heidenheim, also conducting the festival orchestra, Cappella Aquileia.
